Catie Joyce-Bulay

Catie Joyce-Bulay is a freelance writer who follows her curiosity from a passionate makers community tucked into the mountains of rural Washington to small cattle ranchers who are finding creative solutions to systemic ag problems. Areas of specialty include agriculture and local food systems, craft beer, travel and outdoor adventures. Her stories have appeared in Down East, Maine Magazine, Mainebiz, Northwest Travel & Life, Modern Farmer and a couple dozen other publications. Her piece on hop shoots for Gastro Obscura won second place in the North American Guild of Beer Writer’s Best Beer & Food Writing in 2021. Catie has a BA in English from UMaine and an MS in Communication & Science Disorders from the University of Oregon. Her training in and work as a speech language pathologist lends a strong research background and experience translating technical information to a general audience that she takes into her journalism and content writing. She also has experience in content marketing, social media strategy and grant writing. A not-quite Maine native, she grew up in Milo and has lived all around the state and parts of the Pacific Northwest. She currently resides in Central Maine with her husband and young daughter, where you can find her either covered in sidewalk chalk, learning calligraphy, or planning her family’s next adventure.
